Medical Applications: Silver kills
cancer
Silver Bullion, 13 February

Just when one assumes that they cannot
possibly come up with more or new uses of silver, physical silver that is, they come up with more
ground-breaking uses or applications, adding to the already hundreds of uses/applications of silver. This time it is no
different.
Researchers at the University of
Leeds, based in the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, have discovered that silver “…can kill some cancers as effectively as
chemotherapy and with potentially fewer side effects” (Silver bullet for cancer: Metal can kill some tumours
better than chemotherapy with fewer side effects, MailOnline, Anthony Bond, 2 February 2012). It is for one
alleged that silver-based chemicals have the potential to effectively substitute chemotherapy (fewer side
effects and cheaper), especially when it comes to chemotherapy drugs such as the platinum-based Cisplatin, which
is known to cause kidney damage, nausea and vomiting. The relevant researchers have so far only focused on colon
and breast cancer in their studies and used silver-based chemicals, which “…showed that these silver-compounds
were ‘as effective as Cisplatin’ at killing cancer with potentially fewer side effects” (Silver bullet for
cancer: Metal can kill some tumours better than chemotherapy with fewer side effects, MailOnline, Anthony Bond,
2 February 2012). Despite this, they are still unsure how exactly silver goes about its business to kill cancer,
but “…think its effectiveness may be caused by the structure surrounding silver atoms, known as its ligand. They
think this may help release the silver ion into cells when it enters the body, killing any cancer” (Silver
bullet for cancer: Metal can kill some tumours better than chemotherapy with fewer side effects, MailOnline,
Anthony Bond, 2 February 2012). Now needless to say, it is still early days and much more research has to be
done before silver will officially be used to combat or kill cancer, but it is most definitely a step in the
right direction. This should not be confused with the relative widely used Colloidal Silver, a suspension of
submicroscopic metallic silver particles in a colloidal base, which is also yet to be scientifically
substantiated in terms of safe and effective use in the human body, especially given the varying amounts of
silver contained in the Colloidal Silver products available on the market today. Some claim that Colloidal
Silver is 100% safe to use and that pharmaceutical companies are only suppressing its use for their own benefit,
but we tend to disagree with that view, especially given the reported cases of argyria as a result of the use of
Colloidal Silver. Argyria is a condition where the skin turns blue or bluish-grey as a result of silver
poisoning or extremely high levels of silver in the blood.
Silver Bullion welcomes news that
silver-based chemicals can possibly be used as a
more effective means of killing cancer than the use of chemotherapy drugs such as the platinum-based Cisplatin.
This is more reason to acquire or buy silver, physical silver that is, especially at current
silver price levels of more or less $34 an ounce.
