The U.S. Mint has very recently (27 October) produced a limited edition (100 000) of “2011 American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets” in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the American Eagle Silver Coin Program. The sets were on sale at the U.S. Mint’s website for $299.95 per set, less than $60 per coin, resulting in the sets being sold out overnight.

The 2011 American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets, each consists of no less than five 1 oz American Silver Eagle coins: An “uncirculated” American Silver Eagle from the West Point Mint (mint mark: “W”), a “proof” American Silver Eagle also from the West Point Mint, a “reverse proof” American Silver Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint (mint mark: “P”), a “bullion” American Silver Eagle with no mint mark and an “uncirculated” American Silver Eagle from the San Francisco Mint (mint mark: “S”). Despite the limited edition of only a 100 000 sets, the first ever “uncirculated” American Silver Eagle from the San Francisco Mint and “reverse proof” American Silver Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint make these sets truly unique. It is therefore no wonder that these sets are already selling at eBay for anything between $400 and $800 per set.

The U.S. Mint indicates on their website that the sets will ship out later this month. It will most definitely be worth the wait, especially to those who have managed to buy sets at $299.99 per set.
